RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The academic objective of this article is to present the concept of transversality in the political thought of the American-Asian scholar Hwa Yol Jung. The author has conceptualized transversality as a paradigm shift in our approach to knowledge, culture, and, above all, political theory.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Analysis and interpretation of Hwa Yol Jung’s publications, which describe the concept of transversality in its political, philosophical, and cultural dimensions; deconstruction of the views of other American authors focused on transversal thought, whose work provides commentary or a key to interpreting Jung’s concept.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The basis of this article is to clarify the term transversality, then present the concept of transversality within the framework of public philosophy. The final section of this article will explore the concept of globalization, not as a threat, but as an opportunity to resolve the crisis facing contemporary humanity, culture, and science. The final section of the discussion concerns transversal politics.
RESEARCH RESULTS: The author posits that in the contemporary world, transversality is a key concept for coping with the complexity of globalization and other socio-political processes. Firstly, to be able to interpret phenomena occurring in public, cultural, and communication spaces. Secondly, to communicate with Others and function in an era of cultural interaction. Thirdly: because without the category of transversality, scientific discourse exists within the two extremes of universalism and relativism, there is no middle way.
CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Hwa Yol Jung’s thought is unknown in Poland. The following considerations are therefore a contribution to a broader scholarly study devoted to Hwa Yol Jung’s political philosophy.
Transversality, transversal politics, citizen, comparative politics, phenomenology, deliberative democracy, citizen, ethics of hospitality, republicanism, pluralism, politics of difference
