DONALD TRUMP’S POLITICS IN THE “OVERTON WINDOW”: THE CONSERVATIVE REVOLUTION IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN 2025

Section: Articles Varia

Abstract

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to discuss the sudden conservative political turn implemented by Donald Trump after he took power in 2025. The concept of the article is based on the so-called “Overton window”, a problem rarely discussed in political science and media studies.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The basic research method is the analysis of the content of scientific publications and Desk Research analysis. The main research problem is the question about the mechanism of political changes in the USA initiated in 2025, reversing the previously dominant neoliberal trend into a conservative one.

THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The first part of the work presents Trump’s systemic struggles in relations with political opponents during the Joe Biden administration. The second part shows the essence of the so-called “Overton window” as a mechanism explaining the dynamics of changes in public opinion. The third part shows the consolidation of American conservatives after the 2025 elections and the turn in state policy.

RESEARCH RESULTS: The main conclusion from the analysis is that the majority public opinion in the United States during the administration of President Joe Biden, professed the views of the opponent, but was effectively drowned out by the liberal media dominating the public space.

CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The article is an example of reflection on contemporary crises and threats to democratic systems, consisting in the ineffective suppression of public opinion by means of credible mainstream media using clientelistic strategies.
