RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The scientific goal is to adapt the term desecularization to political science and to present research issues related to desecularization in the political sphere.
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: In order to deepen the research on the contemporary relationship between religion and politics, the sociological category of desecularization was used and adapted to the study of the political sphere. The method of analysis of concepts and the comparative method for terms synonymous with desecularization occurring in social sciences were used. An original categorization of research areas for desecularization in the political sphere was also used.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Starting from the description of the concept of secularization in social sciences and the deficits in explaining reality related to it, the justification for introducing the concept of desecularization and then applying it to the study of the political sphere is shown. Several examples of desecularization in the political sphere are discussed and distinguished from the implementation of religious content in the political sphere. Specific areas in which desecularization in the political sphere can be studied are then proposed.
THE RESEARCH RESULTS: The results also convince about the relevance and significance of the phenomenon of the rebirth of religion in the political sphere for understanding contemporary socio-political reality, without abandoning research on secularization. The need for further research on desecularization in the political sphere was stated, also in connection with the problems encountered.
CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: It is recommended to deepen research on desecularization in the political sphere, including research that would allow for the clarification of criteria for increasing the presence of religious content in the political sphere.
