The book is aimed at readers 'outside the circle of specialists' and functions excellently as a work popularizing knowledge of ancient history. The narrative and accessible language, combined with a reliable account of events, are undeniable strengths of the book. The reviewer attempts to look at the discussed work from the perspective of a slightly more demanding reader, based on sources and studies that are rudimentary yet relevant to the issues raised.
