RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: To identify and analyse how the common good is understood and to examine the practices, conditions, benefits, and barriers associated with knowledge sharing among individuals involved in political life in Poland (politicians and political scientists).
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem concerns understanding how politically engaged individuals perceive the common good and what factors influence their willingness to share knowledge for the benefit of society at large. Methods: A literature review was conducted to achieve the study’s objective. Additionally, quantitative research was carried out using a proprietary survey questionnaire containing 58 questions. Thirty complete responses were selected for analysis.
THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Analysis of literature on the concepts of the common good, the political individual (homo politicus), and the nature of knowledge-sharing processes; analysis and description of the collected empirical data.
RESEARCH RESULTS: The common good was defined as natural resources, concern for the common good, and values and ideals. Respondents identified the desire to impart knowledge and the ability to tailor the message to its recipient as the most important factors, while barriers included differing viewpoints, lack of trust, and limited time. The research portrays homo politicus as someone who, on the one hand, recognises the importance of knowledge sharing and its benefits to society, but on the other, is not entirely willing to share it, viewing knowledge as a personal advantage.
CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: There is an awareness of the importance of the common good and knowledge sharing among those involved in political life. Broader adoption of digital transformation solutions and the removal of barriers to knowledge sharing are recommended. Further research is necessary to verify and expand the results obtained and to develop models for effective knowledge sharing in the public sphere.
