Artykuł jest krytyką teologii politycznej Carla Schmitta w jej odczytaniu zaproponowanym przez Heinricha Meiera. Chodzi o zbadanie możliwości tak ujętej teologii politycznej na gruncie chrześcijaństwa. W związku z tym, przedstawionych zostanie kilka uwag na temat stosunku chrześcijaństwa do państwa i polityki, dotyczących szczególnie problemu tego, który powstrzymuje (to katechon) oraz rozróżnienia porządku politycznego i eschatologicznego.
