Section: Thematic Articles

Abstract

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article is to present the actions of President Kais Saied and their impact on the political system of Tunisia. The work combines scientific approaches, indicating the interdisciplinary nature of the considerations conducted. The political science approach was enriched with behavioral analysis.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Research problem: did President K. Saied influence the decomposition of the political system of the Republic of Tunisia? Hypothesis: K. Saied’s political actions became the direct cause of the halt in the democratization process in Tunisia. Content analysis and institutional-legal methods, combined with a critical review of the literature, allowed us to obtain a comprehensive view of the phenomenon of Tunisia moving away from democracy. They raised doubts as to whether Tunisian society is ready for a political change.

THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: At the beginning, I try to explain why the chosen topic is important. The next stage is to present the background – how K. Saied came to power and what the Tunisian political scene looked like. Further discussion concerns the specific actions of the president, especially how he monopolized power. This text ends with conclusions with prognosis.

RESEARCH RESULTS: President K. Saied reversed the trend of democratization of the state. Initially, he presented himself as an independent politician, attached to tradition and democracy. Tunisia returned to the path of authoritarianism, although it was the only country in the MENA with consolidated democracy. An article shows that the state system is not a permanent reality.

CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The lack of agreement at the among politicians may become an incentive for radical movements. The article presents the evolution of the president’s policy. It is recommended that when analysing the problem, attention be paid to the social context – the level of civic participation, measures of social satisfaction and economic aspects.
