Homo politicus and his real preferences. On the method of weighing choice preferences (wpw). In the study of political phenomena

Section: Thematic Articles

Abstract

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The article aims to present the method for weighing choice preferences (WPW method, which is an original development based on the AHP method by Thomas L. Saati), as well as to present examples of original research carried out using the WPW method.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The main research problem is to demonstrate whether the WPW method can be used to effectively measure the preferences of the surveyed people. The article seeks answers to the following questions: What is the essence of the WPW method? What is the difference between the WPW method and the classic preference survey using weights assigned by respondents to the options they choose?

THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The characteristics of the WPW method are presented, so its main attributes in comparison to traditional methods of studying preferences. Several research results using this method are presented, as well as possibilities of its application in the study of political phenomena are described.

RESEARCH RESULTS: The use of the WPW method allows for a more in-depth verification of the actual preferences of the surveyed respondents. In contrast to classical methods of measuring preferences, the WPW method is not based solely on the declarations made by the respondents regarding their preferences, because it is not the respondents who assign weight to the options they choose.

CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The WPW method can be used in many areas of social life, politics understood as both politics and policy, and certainly preference research using it can allow for obtaining in-depth knowledge about the real, and not just declared, preferences in the studied group.
