THE CONCEPT OF GLOBAL ORDER IN KLAUS SCHWAB’S VIEW AS A VISION OF HOW THE WORLD WILL FUNCTION IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Section: Articles Varia

Abstract

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to critically analyze the assumptions of K. Schwab’s conception of changes in the political system and whether and to what extent they may lead to the emergence of structures interpreted in the literature as neo-feudal.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem is to present the most important elements of K. Schwab’s concept of global order and analyze the extent to which it corrects the currently functioning democratic regime and whether it is consistent with concepts known as neofeudalism. To this end, research methods characteristic of political and administrative science were used, such as: critical analysis of scientific literature, empirical research – in this case, information was obtained by studying statements by K. Schwab, selected representatives of international organizations, rulers, and the world’s wealthiest people, and a synthesis of the conclusions (Bäcker i in., 2016, s. 62–67).

THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Attention is drawn to possible negative trends in global development that could lead to economic and humanitarian crises. Next, the most important features of the system that researchers have termed “neo-feudalism” and the one proposed by K. Schwab are presented. Finally, the convergence of feudalism’s characteristics with neo-feudalism and K. Schwab’s concept is examined.

RESEARCH RESULTS: K. Schwab is right to point out that humanity’s quality of life could deteriorate significantly if negative economic and environmental trends are not addressed. However, his proposals for correcting the political system could lead to the creation of a regime with significant restrictions on human rights (including economic and ideological freedom).

CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: If we want to prevent the realization of a negative scenario for humanity (significant impoverishment and a reduced quality of life, hunger, etc.), it is necessary to develop comprehensive changes in both the political and economic systems. However, for these changes to be beneficial for society, cooperation is necessary not only among economists, lawyers, and politicians, but also among entrepreneurs and trade unions. When creating these changes, it is important to keep quality of life indicators in mind. The principles that lead to this have long been presented in the social teaching of the Church. The solutions proposed by K. Schwab are a response to global crises. However, they may have negative consequences in terms of limiting democracy, personal freedom, and the elimination of property rights.
