Influence of management and mass media economics on functioning of Polish radio in New York ether

Abstract

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The scientific purpose of the article is exploring the causes of disappearance of radio for Polish diaspora from New York ether.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHOD: To what degree management and market-driven conditioning contributed to the fall of Polish radio? Does Polish radio have changes for revival? What are the prospects of development for Polish radio? In view of weekly documented subject of Polish radio, the most significant methods of research were oral history and contents of the press analysis. “Nowy Dziennik”, “Nowy Swiat” and anniversary editions were subjected to such analysis. For the purpose of deepening the analysis, historical and comparative methods were also applied.

THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Polish radio was presented against the background of radio and emigratory waves. Then, the processes of management and economy as significant elements of functioning of the radio in New York space. In what follows, new directions of development of Polish radio broadcasting and final conclusions.

RESEARCH RESULTS: Respective emigratory waves carried different conditioning in which Polish radio functioned. All radio projects struggled with financial problems. There was a lack in managerial staff familiar with mass media market in the USA and reliable back shop.

CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Changes would have to happen in the way of financing such activity. Apart from independent means, financial commitment on the part of Polish organizations is necessary. Broadcasting through the Internet is the solution.
