Innovation in Tourism in the Covid-19 Andemic – The Perspective of Experts

Abstract

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to identify the innovation implemented by the tourism industry entities in Dolny Śląsk and Małopolska during the COVID-19 pandemic.

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The technique of focus group interview and individual in-depth interview were used. Experts representing tourism entities operating in the analyzed regions and The Polish Tourism Organisation participated in the research.

THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article refers to publications connected with the field of innovation in the COVID-19 pandemic. It was justified the selection of the research techniques. The main part of the discussion concerns the analysis of the transcription obtained during the interviews.

RESEARCH RESULTS: On the basis of the discussion examples of innovations created by tourism entities covered by the analysis were outlined. It can be concluded that the crisis situation has led to many transformations in the tourism sector.

CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Some of the innovations may become a permanent element of business practice. The opinions of the experts constitute an voice in a discussion about their activities in the COVID-19 pandemic, including how to adapt to the economic situation.
