Abstract
Książka jest biografią Aleksandra Jakowlewa (1923-2005), byłego
ambasadora ZSRR w Kanadzie (1973-1983), napisaną przez wybitnego
dziennikarza kanadyjskiego. Autor pokazuje Jakowlewa jako
człowieka, który pod wpływem swego doświadczenia kanadyjskiego
przyczynił się do narodzin pierestrojki i potem na nią wpływał,
doradzając Gorbaczowowi obieranie radykalnego kursu. „Dlaczego
zdecydowaliście się rozpocząć pierestrojkę i w konsekwencji
oddać władzę? Przecież kontrolowaliście armię i milicję, posiadaliście
tak wiele surowców: ropę, gaz… To była ogromna siła” – pytał
Jakowlewa w 1996 roku polski ambasador w Moskwie.
